Your First Visit
When you arrive for your first appointment you will complete a comprehensive intake form which lists questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family medical history. (We would prefer that you download the New Patient Forms and complete them before arriving for your first appointment).
After we discuss the information on your intake form, your potential response to treatment will be carefully assessed. This assessment may involve examination of your tongue and of your pulse, palpation of acupuncture points on the abdomen and on the back, and range-of-motion and muscle strength tests. It provides a clear and accurate indication of how well you are likely to respond to the treatment we offer. If the assessment indicates a high likelihood of a positive response you will receive an initial treatment at this time. I will explain the methods to be used for your treatment, my reasoning for choosing those methods, and what you can expect to experience as the session progresses. The total time for this first appointment, including intake, assessment and treatment, is commonly about one hour.
If the assessment indicates a less-than-optimal potential response to treatment, no treatment will be given and I will be glad to make an appropriate referral if at all possible.
